Hello everyone,
Basically there is some discussion going on about whether to introduce political parties into New York, which would replace the current system of independent candidates. However it is not yet clear whether these parties should be serious, (ie The Republicans/Democrats) and based on political ideologies or whether they should be frivolous political parties (just be for fun and not very serious).
So does anyone have any ideas or comments about this?

to be honest. a bipolar system is not so effective , just take a look at current situation in the US.. we need more parties. i vote for the serious version. if we play then play like in real life.

Yeah , but i was just using the Republicans and Democrats as examples and not suggesting that there should only be two main parties. But perhaps a referendum can be held to see what everyone thinks

I'd prefer the frivolous political parties. But I think the bigger question for the moment is how would it work? Also, do we have enough active folks for even two parties to function?

Well I was thinking perhaps the voting system would have to be changed and the government would be restructured. An idea i had was using proportional representation to allocate seats in the assembly (maybe 100 to keep things simple) and the party that receives the most votes forms the regional government example: Party A - 20% of Votes - so 20 seats Party B - 5% - 5 seats Party C - 10% - 10 seats Party D - 40% - 40 seats Party E - 25% - 25 seats
So Party D would form a government (or a coalition in this case to get over 50 seats). I would also think the parties would only have a small number of permanent members. My one concern would be everyone making their own party and each getting 1 vote each, perhaps to combat this some sort of second round of voting could be held which does not include parties that received less than maybe 10% in the previous round. Another point could be, why not have both serious and frivolous parties running and let the people choose who they want?

(ps. I would actually prefer serious parties.)

i told Signet that we first somehow need to push our members to be more active , then we can think about parties. although we are making the constitution and we must say something about our political system, so we support the idea.

But don't you think that an election, or something like this could encourage people to join in more?
